Faucet repair and installation in Las Vegas, from the cartridge out

A dripping faucet is almost never the handle and almost always the cartridge or the seat it presses against. Las Vegas tap water is published at 280 parts per million of hardness, which is 16 grains per gallon.

  • The cartridge is identified before any part is ordered
  • Market price ranges published with their sources
  • Told plainly when a faucet is not worth repairing

  • Well past the very hard lineThe US Geological Survey calls water very hard above 180 milligrams per liter, and Las Vegas runs at roughly 1.6 times that threshold.

The short answer

Faucets in the Las Vegas Valley fail from the inside. Mineral in the water grinds down the cartridge, the seats and the aerator screen until the tap drips, sticks or loses flow. Repair means replacing the internal valve rather than the whole fixture. It works wherever the cartridge for that brand and model can still be sourced.

This page covers faucet repair and installation across the Las Vegas Valley. If you are not sure this is the right service, start from All plumbing services.

How a worn faucet behaves before it fails

A faucet rarely breaks in one moment. It gets stiff, then noisy, then it starts to drip when nobody is using it.

Below are the descriptions people actually give on the phone. Each one points at a different part inside the tap.

  • A drip that came back a week after you changed the washer
  • The handle feels gritty and takes effort to turn
  • The pull down sprayer dribbles instead of spraying
  • Water weeping out around the base and spreading across the counter
  • Only the hot side has gone weak
  • White crust building up on the end of the spout
  • The cabinet floor under the sink is damp at the back
Is this you?

If the problem follows one tap and the rest of the house behaves normally, this is the right page. Kitchen, bath, laundry tub and outdoor hose bibbs all count.

It also covers the small parts under the sink, meaning the supply lines and the shutoff valves. Those are usually replaced during a faucet swap.

When this is the wrong page

If pressure is weak at every tap in the house, no cartridge will fix it. That is a supply side problem and belongs with water pressure regulator replacement or pipe Repair in the Las Vegas Valley.

If hot water is weak or absent everywhere, the fixture is innocent. Start at water Heater Repair in the Las Vegas Valley instead.

What faucet work covers

Faucet work is mostly a choice between renewing the valve inside an existing fixture and putting in a new one. The parts under the sink often need attention either way, since they are the same age as the tap.

The jobs that make up faucet repair and replacement
What is includedWhat that means
Cartridge replacementThe internal valve that controls flow and temperature is swapped, which is the fix for most drips, stiff handles and temperature drift.
Seat and spring serviceOn two handle faucets the small seats and springs under the cartridge are renewed, because a new cartridge on worn seats drips again quickly.
Aerator and spout cleaningThe screen at the end of the spout is removed, descaled or replaced, which is the cheapest cure for a weak or scattered stream.
Supply lines and shutoffsThe flexible connectors and the angle stop valves under the sink are replaced during a fixture swap, since old stops often refuse to close.
Full faucet replacementThe old fixture comes out, the counter holes and deck plate are checked against the new one, and the new tap is set and sealed.
Sprayer and hose repairA pull down hose, its weight and the quick connect at the spray head are replaced when the sprayer dribbles or will not retract.
Sink drain assemblyThe pop up drain and tailpiece are renewed when they leak, because they usually fail at the same age as the faucet above them.

What we commit to

What you can hold this page to

  • The part is identified before anything is orderedCartridges are model specific, so the existing one is pulled and matched on site rather than ordered from a description given over the telephone.
  • You are told when a repair is not worth doingIf a fixture is corroded at the deck or its parts are discontinued, you hear that first. Nobody should pay for a repair that buys a few months.
  • No dealership or certification is implied anywhereFaucet brands are named only as the maker of a part in your house. None is a partner, a certification or an authorization.
  • Both sides of the tap get tested, not just the one you called aboutHot and cold wear at different rates, and a fixture that drips on one side is usually close behind on the other.
How it works

How faucet work is sequenced

The order matters, because the cheapest fix is checked first.

  1. Say which tap and what it is doing

You describe the fixture, the room and the behavior. The question that comes back is whether the shutoffs under that sink still turn, because a seized stop changes the tools needed.

    On the phone
  2. The cheap causes get ruled out first

You point out the sink. The plumber pulls the aerator and checks the screen, then isolates hot and cold to see whether one side alone has lost flow.

    First on site
  3. The fixture is identified and priced

The brand and cartridge type are identified so the correct part can be sourced. You are told whether the part is available and what a replacement faucet would cost instead.

    Before any work starts
  4. Fitted, sealed and run under pressure

The plumber fits the part or the fixture, restores the water slowly, and runs both sides while checking the deck seal and every connection underneath.

    Before anyone leaves

The number is fixed once you approve the scope at stage three. If a supply valve fails while the water is being shut off, that replacement is quoted separately before it is done.

What it costs

What faucet work costs around Las Vegas

The figures in the table are published market ranges for faucet work, gathered by national cost guides. They describe the market, not this company's rates.

Faucet repair sits below faucet replacement in almost every case, and both sit well below the water treatment work that slows the wear down.

How the estimate works

Estimating a faucet takes a few minutes at the sink. The fixture gets identified, the aerator comes off, and the cabinet underneath is checked for damp and for working shutoff valves.

That check decides everything else. You are given a scope and a price before a tool is picked up, and the price only changes if you approve a change.

Published market ranges for faucet work and the water treatment behind it
JobTypical Las Vegas rangeWhat moves the number
Kitchen faucet replacement$162 to $364Average about $262, with a full range of $91 to $600.
Service call or diagnostic fee$75 to $150The broader trade range runs about $50 to $200. Emergency and after hours dispatch is higher, commonly $150 to $350 or more.
Pressure regulator replacement$200 to $700Average around $400.
Water softener, installed$200 to $6,000National average about $1,500. A whole home system sized for Las Vegas hardness sits in the middle of that range, not the bottom.

What changes your number

  • A single handle cartridge swap on a common brand sits at the low end. An imported fixture with a scarce part sits at the high end.
  • Replacing a faucet costs more than repairing one, because the old fixture has to come out and the deck seal is rebuilt.
  • Faucets with a deck plate covering three holes take longer to change than single hole fixtures, since alignment and sealing both take more work.
  • Corroded shutoff valves under the sink add a second job. In the valley these often fail at the early end of their 8 to 20 year life.
  • Bar sinks and laundry tubs in tight cabinets cost more in labor than an open kitchen cabinet, purely because of the space to work in.
  • Wall mounted and pot filler faucets sit above standard deck mounted work, since the valve body lives inside the wall rather than on the counter.
Repair against replace

A cartridge costs a fraction of a new installed faucet, so repair wins unless the fixture is corroded through or its parts are discontinued.

Service call and diagnostic fee

Across the trade, a service or diagnostic visit is published at roughly $75 to $150 by the Housecall Pro 2026 Plumbing Price Guide. Evening and weekend dispatch runs higher in that same guide.

No fee or credit policy for this business has been verified, so none is published here. What the visit costs, and whether it comes off the repair, is confirmed with you on the call before anyone is dispatched.

What the job looks like

What hard water does to a tap

Two pieces of a faucet show valley water damage first. Both are visible without any tools at all.

The aerator screen. Faucet Repair and Installation in Las Vegas

The aerator screen

The small screen at the end of the spout catches mineral before the water reaches your hands. On 16 grain per gallon water it glazes over, because a little more deposit is left behind every time the tap runs. A scattered or weak stream from one tap is usually this and nothing else.

The drip that returns. Faucet Repair and Installation in Las Vegas
Illustrative image, not a photo of our work

The drip that returns

A tap that drips after the handle is closed means the valve is no longer seating cleanly. Mineral grit is what scores those sealing surfaces. Once the seat is scored, a new washer or a new cartridge alone will start dripping again.

Fair questions before you book

The faucet is only three years old, it should not be worn

Age in years matters less than the water running through it. The USGS calls water very hard above 180 milligrams per liter and Las Vegas runs about 1.6 times that.

A tap in a softened house and the same tap in an unsoftened one age at different speeds. That difference is measured in years, not months.

A new faucet costs less than paying someone to repair this one

Sometimes that is true, and you should hear it said out loud rather than discovered afterward. It depends on the fixture, the part and the condition of the deck seal.

Where a good fixture has a cheap cartridge available, repair is clearly better value. Where the part is discontinued, a replacement is the honest answer.

Can I buy the faucet myself?

Yes, and plenty of people prefer to, because the fixture is a visible thing they want to choose. Bring it home and it gets installed.

Check the hole count in your counter before buying. A single hole faucet will not cover a three hole sink without the matching deck plate.

Why replace the little valves under the sink if the faucet is the problem?

Those angle stops are what lets anyone shut the water off at that sink later. InterNACHI puts their service life at 8 to 20 years.

Hard water pushes them toward the early end of that range. A stop that will not close turns a small future leak into a whole house shutdown.

Will a water softener stop this happening again?

It addresses the cause rather than the symptom, because the wear comes from dissolved mineral. The water district itself tells customers to set a softener to 16 grains per gallon.

It is a separate job with its own permit requirement in unincorporated Clark County. That work is described on water softener installation.

Questions about this service

Why does my faucet drip even when it is turned off tight?

A drip after the handle is closed means the valve inside is not sealing. On a modern single handle tap that is the cartridge. On an older two handle tap it is the rubber seat and spring underneath. Turning the handle harder wears the surface faster.

Mineral in valley water is the usual culprit. It scores the sealing faces over time, which is why the same tap in a softened house lasts noticeably longer.

Why is only the hot side of my faucet weak?

When one side alone loses pressure, the restriction is on that side and nowhere else. The usual causes are a partly blocked supply line or a shutoff valve that is not fully open. Debris trapped in the cartridge is the third.

Hot lines collect mineral faster than cold lines, because heat drives calcium out of solution. That is also why the hot side is usually the first to go weak.

Can I fix a dripping faucet myself?

Many people do, and Clark County Code does not require a permit to repair a leak in a fixture. The part that catches homeowners out is not the faucet at all. It is the shutoff valve under the sink that refuses to close once it is disturbed.

Check that both stops turn freely before starting. If either one will not shut, stop there, because the next step is shutting the water off at the house.

How do I know which cartridge my faucet takes?

The cartridge is matched to the brand and model, and the reliable way is to pull the old one and compare it. A photograph of the faucet from outside will narrow the brand, but two similar looking fixtures often take different internals.

Keep the paperwork if you ever buy a new faucet. The model number turns a parts hunt into a two minute lookup years later.

What does a faucet replacement cost in Las Vegas?

The table on this page lists the published market range for kitchen faucet replacement with the cost guide it came from. That range covers labor, not the fixture you choose, and the fixture itself can easily cost more than the work of fitting it.

Anything unusual about the sink adds to it. A tight cabinet, corroded shutoffs or a three hole counter taking a single hole tap all add time.

Why does my new faucet have low flow right after installation?

Work on the supply lines loosens scale and debris inside the pipe, and that material travels to the first screen it meets. The screen is the aerator in the new spout. Pulling it out, rinsing it and refitting it is normally all that is needed.

It can happen more than once while the line finishes clearing. Once the loosened material is through, flow settles down and stays there.

Do you work on outdoor hose bibbs and laundry taps?

Yes. A hose bibb, a laundry tub tap and a bar sink faucet are the same family of work. Each is a valve, a seat and a connection holding pressure. Outdoor taps take more mineral and sun damage than anything indoors.

The common outdoor failure is a stem washer that has hardened, which shows up as a hose bibb that drips while the hose is connected.
